To survive 13 hours of flight to London wasn't an easy task. same day, we took a domestic flight into Edinburgh. total 14 hours on plane. excluding the time i was on the cabbie. my ass was sore with pain. it hurt after the 7th hour. tried not to check my watch every hour. cos it will make me feel even more miserable. i got excited whenever meals are served. not because the food is fantastic but serving meals indicates i'm getting closer to my dest :)
many had asked if it was pre-honeymoon trip or asking what would be my honeymoon dest. so to answer, No it was not a pre-honeymoon trip (we aren't rich). the main purpose was his graduation. i'm still hoping going to Lapland for honeymoon but seems not really possible cos of the upcoming house renovation will eat quite alot into our budget. perhaps perhaps, Eastern Europe or New Zealand will be nice. tsk tsk. anyway, nothing has been nailed down. still subj to changes. or i may end up going to HKG/ TW for a shopping trip.
to start the trip, we stayed 7 days in Scotland before moving down to London. did a day trip to Paris.
Paris was not a fantastic place. though it was infamous that french men are romantic. but french are also one of the few who are quite snobbish which totally turn me off. many come for LV & willing to stand in the long queue which shows the side of desperation to get that piece of bag into instead of displaying their elegant side. in fact, my french colleague told me that the french do not have a craze on LV or Agnes b like we do.
anyhow, we were lucky to spend only a day. so only a small fraction of the trip was spolit. Scotland was a superb place! the scenery is totally breathtaking. esp pine trees lining up on the highlands & the canola fields along the roads. sheeps grazing the grass freely. i wished i'm one of those sheep. eat & sleep. HJP say that i would soon end up on the plate if i was a sheep. but i wouldn't mind. people are nice. they are proud of their scottish culture. weather was cold. i bet it was below 10 degrees. we took 4 local tours (castles/ highlands/ whisky brewery etc) which in my opinion the driver cum tour guide were knowledgable. learnt the history of Scotland while on the road. but sometimes i do fell asleep due to the long journey. another love for Scotland was currently it is under daylight saving. the sky is still blue even at 8pm which leaves me still quite energetic.
the downside of Scotland is malls/ shops (except eateries) are closed at 5pm SHARP. so i have to race against time to shop. how i wish no OT in SG (though i hardly have any).
moving on to London, i could identify several things similar to singapore. one of them was the influx of FT. we had the mainland chinese & india indian. they had the blacks & indians. some of them are not very friendly. they thought able to work in London gave them a high & mighty feeling. i'm talking abt the sales and the admin. the Brits are far more gentlemen. London underground (which is known as our MRT) has a history of more than a century and still working very fine. the ride was pretty noisy due the screeching of the track & the wheels when the train is moving at fast speed.
escalators in the underground are not a common sight. that explains why a lot of the old has a walking stick with them. on escalators, people are so auto to keep to the right, leaving the left for traffic which i appreciate it very much.
marks & spenser (M&S), tesco, sainsbury are our best friends. i love the salads from there. FRESH. even you bought it late at night. SG cherry tomatoes can't compared to theirs. the ones in UK are real sweet with an ooze on the first bite. their in-house bakery was good as well.. body shop is dirt cheap compared to SG. as i buy, i start to curse & swear. hahaha.. Primark was a shopping paradise for women. stuff are generally cheaper compared to H&M/ Newlook/ Topshop etc. but it was like a war zone upon entering. grab a couple of stuff from there & left since the shopping mood has been killed.
in love with M&S hosiery which i was tempted to get more but refrain since i hardly wear in SG. but there was one under the brand Autograph, the stocking is smooth as velvet. not cheap but definately cheaper than SG.
Visited Cambridge/ Bath/ the usual london icons for sightseeing. Winsor castle was one the most splendid among the castles visited (Edinburg castle was beautiful as well). guess this is due to the Royal family still lives there once in a while. Westminster Abby was magnificent! the Kings college chapel has the historic feel (due to the rich history). very harry potter feeling. we attend the evening choir service which make me really go WOW by the boys singing.
overall, it was enjoyable & i did not suffer from jet lag at all. lucky me :)
indeed, the trip was an eye-opener for a kuku like me :)
