Penang

my 1st time wearing a mask. hjp commented i looked like a ninja turtle -.- si mon say that i was too extragrating to wear a mask for the 1 hr flight. but its better to be safe than sorry.

the hotel we stayed in georgetown - Cititel

and the resort we stayed during our last night - Hydro majestic

i intended to have a swim in the pool. who knows my goggles gave way before i start. hence, sat ard to soak in the sun (w/o sunblock - was a BIG killer to my skin) & people-watch. i love both the outlay of the rooms. at least the quilt covers are white. unlike those traditional malay flowers design.

the only place of interest (POI) i visited was the peranakan house cos of its rich culture.. usually i skip POI when i went holidaying. entry per pax is RM 5 with a informative tour guide. cheap cheap. we managed to get there by foot *big applause* the sun was hard at work that day & it was ard 30 mins walk from our hotel... & we almost lost our way.

the entrance of the house. the house is damn huge. they have multiple dinning rooms for diff occasions (eg: a room dedicated for dinning with the westerners). they also have rooms for ladies to past their time & men's biz talk.

the western dining room

this suppose to be the chinese dinning room

the recreation halls.

backyard near the kitchen.

i was surprised to learn that the servants only do marketing & housekeeping. the Nonyas will do the cooking.

somewhow or rather i like these 2 shots - taken by me.. haaaa

i'm also impressed by their furnishings/materials used.

tinted glass from England with chinese graphic (中西合拼)

marble embeded in wooden chairs. these chairs are really old but sturdy.

vaseline glasses for displaying flowers & fruits. (the poor used china glass vase & metal plate for the flowers & fruits)

wash basins & 大便桶 of the diff era. the old chinese & peranakan style.

thats all for the peranakan house. it was an interesting & enriching tour. in fact i snap alot of photos but too lazy to post them up.

the next item i'm going to blog is FOOD! i had been craving for chay kway teow for the longest time. ate it almost everyday.. hahaha.. as mentioned in the last entry, i had came up with my own ranking of chay kway teow. muahahaha...

the 4th place goes to . . . . the 1st stall i tried at the famous 大牌档 @ Gurney drive

2nd runner up goes to . . . the 2nd stall which is also @ Gurney drive.
this stall seems to be the most famous among the chay kway teow stalls

1st runner up . . . is the kopitam near the hotel i stayed at georgetown. in fact it was the 1st lunch when i reached penang.

and the winner goes to . . . . . the stall in Prangin Mall. it was so good that i ordered a 2nd plate.

i also had my fill on the assam laksa. the only laksa which i do not feel sinful/guilty after eating.

from Gurney drive

from Queensbay mall. this was good as there's alot of sardines (cos i pay more ma)

also not to forget the bak ku teh [photo was nicely taken]

had juciy buttered prawns (also my fave) / chix wings / stingray too. .

satay from Gurney drive again. i missed the one at JB.

wantan mee.. a very diff taste from SIN. m'sia version is famous for adding dark soya sauce. surprisingly, its does not taste sweet.

though i heart m'sia char kway teow to bits, their hokkien prawn mee (soupy) also had won me over.
i was not a soupy prawn mee person since young. i rem when my 1st visit to Penang, i ordered a hokkien prawn mee thinking that it was the fried version. when it came, i was surprised & disappointed that it was in the soup. however, the taste was great which had left a very deep impression. and i tried the same again but at diff place. it was still good as ever. the thick prawn soup base which you can't find in SIN. the best part is no MSG!

and needless to say, i finished up all the soup (o.o)v

last but not least, steamboat dinner which was totally not in the plan cos i can't resist the smell of the tom yam. mmm. .

it was a pity i did not had any of the malay stuff which i think it should be good esp my fave mee soto.

spoted this shop at Queensbay. it's actually a shop renting out pigeon holes to ppl who want to sell their stuff. smart idea thought by the tenant. cos the person no need to hard sell/ promote the stuff.. easy $$.

the day & night scenes of Penang. very much like SIN too.

umbrella sheltering chix wings???
cos it started raining quite heavily.

last sunset watched before departing Singapore.
